That is almost one slice per one week.Frankly, we’re getting hungry just by talking about it. The junk food such as candy, soda, and all the other foods that are part of the fast food chain are usually very high in calories but very low in nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fibers and healthy fats.

Here comes the question – does the pizza fall into this category, or it can be considered as a nutritiously filled healthy meal? Even though the pizzas vary from fancy restaurants to pop up shops on the street to finding them in the frozen section in the grocery store, they are always pretty similar when it comes to the ingredients.

So, today we are going to do some digging and find out what these ingredients are doing to your body.Let’s start with the crispy and warm crust.

The pizza is considered to be relatively high in carbs. So, how many of them are we talking about here? Here are the options of a 14 inch pie crust.

The thin crust contains 230 calories, 21.8 grams of carbs, 1.9 grams of fiber; the regular contains 285 calories, 33.2 grams of carbs, 2.5 grams of fiber; and the thick one contains 312 calories, 35.6 grams of carbs; 2.5 grams of fiber.

A slice of pizza with a regular crust contains about 10 to 15% of your daily carb intake. Even though the low carb dieting plans are popular with people who want to lose weight and with diabetic people who try to manage their blood sugar levels.

But what you  need to know is that carbs are not your enemy and you should not cut them out in order to lose weight. Actually, the trick to losing weight is eating just the right amount of macronutrients and calories. As long as you plant your dieting plan like you should, losing weight should not be a problem for you, even if you are consuming pizza.

The sauce also matters very much! The tasteful layer of tomato sauce is considered to be the healthiest part ofthe pizza. The tomatoes are known to be an excellent source of beta carotene, lycopene, potassium, folate, Vitamin C, flavonoids and Vitamin E.

There were two studies, one conducted on a group of healthy patients, and one was conducted on patients who were suffering from diabetes type 2, showed that regularly consuming tomato sauce and other tomato products decreased the levels of bad cholesterol in the body as well as the blood pressure levels.

The lycopene has also been linked to lowering the cholesterol, improving the immune system, can lead to fewer blood clots, will prevent hardening of any arteries, and a decreased risk of a stroke.

Finally, let’s talk about the glory which is the cheese. The cheese is considered to be a complete source of protein because it contains all the amino acids which are necessary to help you build up your body muscle, repair the tissues and even give you some energy.

This is why one slice of pizza will give you 12 to 15 grams of protein. The fats that are found in the cheese will slow down the digestion of all the carbs and the sugars found in the pizza crust, thus they will not be able to hit your bloodstream as fast.

A slice of cheese pizza contains 18.5 grams of fat, 28% of your daily fat intake. If you try to further break that down it will show that one slice contains 6.5 grams of saturated fats, making up about 33% of your daily saturated fat intake.

The saturated fat used to be banned from the nutrient dense world, but some recent studies have shown that there is no particular evidence showing how the dietary saturated fat is associated with an increase risk of a heart disease, coronary disease, stroke or any cardiovascular disease whatsoever.

Take the French paradox as an example. The French people have a very low incidence of coronary disease or heart disease even though their dieting plan is filled with saturated fats.

They are a country that eats the most cheese per capita than any other country on the planet.

According to one particular study, the participants who had the highest consumption of full fat dairy had a decreased rate of deaths caused from cardiovascular diseases than those who were on a low fat dairy consumption. The only thing you have to make sure of is that you plan ahead what you eat and fit your dietary choices by regulating your daily calorie and macronutrient intake.
