Today we will talk about the painkiller Tramadol, which is known to be taken by thousands of people on an every day basis, and is proven to claim more lives than any other drug there is, including the heroin and the cocaine. This is all according to the Northern Ireland’s top pathologists.

When it is taken correctly, this particular painkiller cannot do you any harm, but the danger of it increases when the people who use it mix it with alcohol or other drugs. Just in the last year, about 30ish death cases in Northern Ireland were connected to the use of tramadol.

Among these cases were 16 year old girl and an elderly person, in his 70s.Professor Jack Crane, a state pathologist for NI states that people are not aware how potentially risky is to digest this particular drug tramadol.

It is believed that people think it is safe just because it is in the list of prescription drugs. This is a drug which is based on opiate, and is used to treat moderate and even severe pain and should be available only on prescription.

In the year 2014, it has been reclassified, making it an illegal Class C drug without any prescription whatsoever. But, the people who are anti drug campaigners say that every day, more and more people are turning to the black market.

This professor, Jack Crane stated that he fears more and more people will die unless an urgent action is taken and this is why he is calling out for a crackdown on the illegal market. He urges that the tramadol should be upgraded again, this time to a Class A product!

Professor Crane is now set to meet Northern Ireland’s Chief Medicinal Officer later this month in order to push for changes. Do you think he will make it happen?

And are you one of those people who are taking the tramadol on a daily basis? We have yet to see the outcome of this situation. For now, the only thing you can do is be safe and take precautions, for you and for the people around you.
