When you go to the salon to get your hair done, it should be considered a relaxing process. But, there is one thing you should worry about here, and it is not the money.

You know the chair with the little sink on it where your hair stylist puts your head and leans it backwards in order to wash your hair, right? Well, the discomfort is not the only thing you should be worried about here.

It is the fact that when you put your head in this position, you are putting yourself at risk of suffering from a stroke.

Do you know what a stroke is? It is a restricted  flow of oxygen to the brain. The damaged or blocked blood vessels can lead to an abnormal blood flow or even blood clots.

The reduced flow of blood goes to the brain and kills off the brain cells. The physical consequences that follow depend on which part of the brain is damaged.

For an example, if the left part of your brain is damaged, you can experience some language issues and troubles speaking, or issues in the right side of the body. And if you experience some damage to the right side of your brain, then you will suffer from vision loss or issues in the left side of your body.

One of the most common causes of death in America is the stroke, and the number one cause of disability in people. According to the victims, 60% of the women and 40% of the men suffer from a stroke.

But, the saddest news here is that in 80% of the cases the stroke could have been prevented!

The symptoms of a stroke involve an impaired speech, loss of vision, blurred vision or double vision, drooping face and weakness in only one side of the body.

How to prevent a stroke? Well, if you are in a salon, then make sure you pick one where the chair and the sink are adjustable so that while your hair dresser washes your hair you will feel comfortable.

Also, make sure you always rest the back of your head on a towel, or even more, just so you can prevent the strain on your neck.

If you are in your home, check your blood pressure levels often, because it is a leading cause of a stroke nowadays. Consume healthy foods regularly and make sure you don’t consume unhealthy foods which are high in cholesterol, sodium and trans fat because they increase your risk of a stroke with every passing day.

Consume whole foods with a healthy content in fat, watch your sugar intake and flavor your meals with some alternatives to the salt.

Of course, besides from consuming healthy foods, you need to be physically active too. If you maintain your body by regular exercising, you will lower your chances of a high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, heart attack and high cholesterol.

Finally, if you happen to find yourself or anyone else experiencing a stroke, then immediately seek medical attention. In these cases it is for the best if you react quickly.
