The hot dogs are one of the most preferred foods in America. It is estimated that more than 7 billion hot dogs are consumed every summer.
This food was initially produced by German immigrants back in the 1860’s in New York. The hot dogs instantly gained their popularity, and they still remain among the most favorite foods.
However, considering the hot dogs’ content and the way they are produced, they can be a serious threat to your health. The hot dogs are nutritionally empty processed foods, and they are produced at an extremely high rate of 300,000 hot dogs per hour.
The consumption of this food can cause numerous dangerous diseases. The hot dogs are also considered to be responsible for causing various types of cancer.
Why Is the Hot Dog Dangerous?
The hot dogs are basically a mixture of beef, chicken, and pork. The factories produce them by using leftovers from steaks and pork chops, as well as slaughter by-products, like animal heads and feet, skins, and fatty tissue.
These leftovers are combined together into a thick paste. Afterward, an excess amount of additives is added to this paste in order to improve its taste.
These additives include an excessive amount of corn syrup, salt, nitrates, monosodium glutamate (MSG), and many other harmful chemicals.
The artificial flavorings in the hot dogs differ depending on the area where they are being sold. The flavorings include MSG and carmine, a dye boiled in sodium carbonate or ammonia.
The hot dogs can pretty much include anything since the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) does not demand the manufacturers to list the flavorings on the label.
How Is the Hot Dog Linked to Cancer?
A number of studies have proven that the consumption of hot dogs can lead to a development of cancer. According to the findings of a study conducted by the University of Hawaii, the processed meats, in general, are responsible for increasing the risk of pancreatic cancer by 67%.
The American Institute for Cancer Research states that the intake of only one hot dog a day raises the chances of developing colorectal cancer by 21%.
The hot dogs contain nitrates and nitrites, which are one of the most dangerous additives used in this food. These additives can also be found in the organic hot dogs, often in greater amounts than the conventional ones.
In the presence of high heat, these two additives blend with amines in processed meat. When they combine with amines, they result in nitrosamines, which have been connected to the development of several types of cancer, including stomach, pancreas, colon, and bladder cancer.
